The Director General of Grassroots Mobilizers for Buhari (GMB) of All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Umar Faruk Mohammed has berated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its National Secretary, Prof. Adewale Oladipo over threat to blow up Nigeria, because of the arrest of a suspected criminal, Barrister Olisa Metuh.
He said the threat is laughable, shameful and a complete disaster for both national and international reputation of the party.
The group in a statement released by South-South Media Director, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe further stated that Metuh, a senior member of the learned profession and minister in the temple of justice ought to know that receiving government funds into his private bank account without due process and justifiable reasons may at any material time spark off investigation and subsequent criminal litigation.
GMB further stated:
"We recall vividly that Barrister Olisa Metu earlier addressed a world press conference in Abuja and stated categorically that the monies he received from former President Goodluck Jonathan was for private and secret assignment which cannot be disclosed to anybody including law enforcement agencies.
"By that public pronouncement or declaration it became very obvious that the shady financial deals involving suspect Metuh required re-enforcement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to get the PDP spokesman to face criminal prosecution.
"It is a truism that the law is no respecter of persons which is why Metuh can not be above board in this matter.
"It is obvious that the shady financial deals involvimg chieftains of the PDP and their associates are naked before the entire world and shall not be swept under the carpet by Buhari's administration.
"Metuh need to explain how a whopping sum of N1.4 billion developed wings and flew into his private company's bank account.
"Therefore his arrest has nothing to do with Nigerian democracy but about whether or not he unscrupulously through conspiracy and common intention with others criminally shared monies meant for the procurement of weapons of war which they collectively looted from our national treasury.
"We hereby state without fear or favour that the arrest of Metuh is in perfect order and not conflicting with any law relating to invitation, interrogation and detention of suspects in financial crimes; there are documentary and other credible evidence pointing to show involvement of the suspect.
"It is trite that after interrogation, a suspect may be detained for a reasonable period to aid or facilitate further investigation depending on the degree of offence before bail is granted under prescribed conditions.
"N1.4 billion is a huge sum of money which is the more reason why Olisa Metuh cannot be given a V.I.P treatment, no matter his status in the society.
"Members of GMB nationwide are impressed and happy with the federal government over its transparent and genuine efforts in fighting corruption in the country. We urge Mr President to double efforts in his strong desire to recover the nation's looted funds so as to re-deploy same towards the overall development of the country.
"Nigerians must of a necessity ignore the empty threat by PDP and its national leaders. It is on record that some senior citizens of this country were arrested, interrogated, detained or jailed by previous PDP administrations and heaven did not come down."
Alhaji Faruk Mohammed assured Nigerians that President Buhari meant well for the nation, therefore citizens should cooperate with the APC national government to clean up the mess perfected by PDP during her 16 years of misrule.
He said PDP Chieftains and leaders cannot and will not escape from the long arm of the law for mismanaging the huge financial resources of this nation.
Hate propaganda against President Buhari and APC will not prevent the federal government from digging deeper to expose more looters in the on-going war against corruption until every stolen kobo is recovered and offenders jailed, the statement added.
